Sacred Heart School is a fully-accredited Catholic elementary school located in the east central Ohio community of Coshocton.  Situated on a hill overlooking the city's downtown, Sacred Heart serves as the only parish and Catholic school for the entire area representing Coshocton, Riverview, and Ridgewood school systems.    Coshocton County (population 36, 969) represents the northern part of Ohio's Appalachian counties.  Like many counties in the region, Coshocton faces a significant economic downturn with the loss of four major industries in the last few years.  The average median income is $24,595.  Despite challenges, the school celebrates its 100th year in the Coshocton community in 2007.

Sacred Heart School provides a quality Catholic education for students in grades preschool through grade six with a pupil-teacher ratio of 1:14.  Our student population is 98% white, 1% Hispanic, and 1% Asian.  Forty-three percent of the students are not members of any Catholic parish.  Fifteen percent of the students qualify for reduced or free lunches and approximately 25% of the students receive financial aid.

There are eight highly qualified teachers for the preschool through sixth grade classrooms.  In addition, music, art, computers and physical education are taught by volunteers.  The school offers accommodations to supplement the classroom curriculum for students with special needs and gifted students.  Coshocton City Schools provide a speech teacher two mornings a week and a learning disabilities tutor.  Occupational and physical therapy services are also available for students in need.

Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 take the Terra Nova standardized tests.  Scores are consistently at or above the state and Diocesan averages.

Sacred Heart has a seven-member school advisory board and a school funding committee.  These groups work tirelessly to supplement the income from tuition, donations, and grants.
