St. Joseph Montessori School is a Catholic Montessori community committed to a learning environment that respects the uniqueness of each child in reaching his/her full potential.  The school offers a classic Montessori alternative educational program to families throughout the Central Ohio area.  SJMS is located in Italian Village, a residential neighborhood near the downtown area.  We are accredited by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association and are affiliated with the American Montessori Society.

The school was designated as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in both 1994 and 2004, recognizing us as one of the best elementary schools in the country. This recognition identifies St. Joseph Montessori School as a school whose students achieve in the top ten percent of schools in the nation.

St. Joseph has a diverse student population, with an enrollment of nearly 25% racial minorities, as well as a wide mix of religious affiliations and socio-economic backgrounds.  This diversity affords the opportunity for our students to broaden their vision of the world.  Through collaborative work, care of the environment, global and spiritual education, and conflict resolution, our students gain an appreciation of personal and social responsibilities and acceptance of human differences.

Students are provided opportunities to participate in their own learning, to make individual choices of work, to experience success, and to develop their natural desire to learn. In addition to the core curriculum, our students participate in Spanish classes beginning at the age of three.  Art, physical education, and music instruction are an important part of the students’ total education.  The music program at the elementary level includes optional instruction in vocal and bell choirs and in band.

We at St. Joseph Montessori School believe that, as a result of the program provided in our school, each child will become a confident, competent person, exhibiting sensitivity, curiosity, creativity, and a spirit of discovery in his or her approach to life and learning.
