Our mission is to enhance student learning in an environment that evokes the Christian principles of love, respect, honesty, integrity and service to others.

We are the neighborhood parish school for St. Matthew the Apostle Church and the Church of the Resurrection. We serve children living in the Gahanna, New Albany, Columbus, Westerville, Licking Heights and Southwest Licking school districts.

In addition to the academic content subjects, religion is taught daily and students begin and end their day with prayer. Students also have the opportunity to learn about their faith through a variety of liturgical services. Students assist in the planning of school masses and participate as lectors and in choir.

We have eighteen classroom teachers and a fulltime science lab teacher, vocal music teacher, art teacher, technology teacher, media specialist/librarian, physical education teacher, intervention specialist and academic tutors. Several teacher aides assist the classroom teachers in a variety of tasks. We also employ a fulltime school nurse, full time learning disability tutor, part time speech/language therapist, part time reading tutor, part time guidance counselor, school psychologist and occupational therapist.

Our parish has a program entitled S.P.I.C.E. (Special People in Catholic Education). This program consists of helping the classroom and special teachers with materials, workshops, and personnel to assist students with learning needs. This past year we received $5,000 to purchase adaptive classroom equipment to assist several students.

The art teacher and library/media specialist have been awarded a grant entitled Picturing America.  It is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities in conjunction with the American Library Assoiciaton.  These teachers are incorporating the resources from the grant into their curriculum.

St. Matthew School has a dynamic and supportive Home & School Association. Over the years HASA has funded a state of the art science laboratory, complete playground, computers and technical equipment (Smart Boards, a mobile laptop lab), remodeling of our original restrooms, classroom equipment and furnishings, including storage cabinets and lockers for the students.
